Privacy Policy
Petal is built to work without collecting your personal information. This policy explains, in plain words, what happens to the information you put into the app.
The short version
- There is no account and no Petal server holding your records.
- Everything you record — baby profiles, products, uses, skin check-ins, notes and photos — is stored only on your device.
- Petal has no advertising, no analytics and no tracking, and does not sell or share your data.
Information stored on your device
When you use Petal you may enter a baby's nickname, an optional birth date, skin sensitivities you choose to record, the products you use and when, skin check-ins, notes, and photos you choose to add. This information is saved in the app's private storage on your device. It is not uploaded to us. It is included in your device backups (such as iCloud Backup) according to your device settings.
Camera and photos
Petal asks for camera or photo library access only when you choose to photograph or upload an ingredient label, or add a private photo to your records. Ingredient labels are read with on-device text recognition (Apple's Vision framework). Label photos are not uploaded and are not kept after the text is read. Photos you attach to records stay in the app's private storage.
Barcode lookup (optional)
If you choose to look up a product by barcode, and agree when asked, Petal sends only the barcode number to Open Beauty Facts, a free, community-maintained product database, to retrieve the product's name and ingredient list. If a product photo is available, it is loaded from Open Beauty Facts. As with any website, their servers receive your device's IP address with the request. No baby details or other personal information are sent. Open Beauty Facts is governed by its own privacy policy.
Subscriptions
Petal Plus is purchased through the App Store. Payment is handled entirely by Apple; Petal never receives your payment details. The app checks with the store whether your subscription is active so it can unlock Plus features.
Sharing and export
Care summaries, plain-text handovers and data exports are created only when you ask, and are shared through your device's share sheet to the place you choose. Petal does not send them anywhere itself.
Deleting your data
You can delete a single entry, a whole baby profile, or everything at once in Profile → How Petal handles your data → Delete all my data. Deleting the app also removes its data from your device.
Children
Petal is intended for parents and caregivers, not for use by children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children; the information about a baby that a caregiver records stays on the caregiver's device.
Health information
Petal provides general ingredient information and a place to keep your own observations. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice or diagnosis. Talk to your paediatrician or a healthcare professional about any skin concern.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
